DANVILLE, Va. (July 22, 2010) - As a Pacesetter for United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County, Danville Regional Medical Center will host a community informational fair on Tuesday, July 27 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the main lobby of the hospital.
The community informational fair will feature representatives from several United Way-funded organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Goodwill Industries, The Free Clinic, the Hatcher Center, Boys and Girls Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Danville Speech and Hearing, the Salvation Army, Danville Cancer Association and others. There will also be information available about other United Way community initiatives, such as Smart Beginnings of Danville-Pittsylvania County, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Building Economic Success Together (BEST) and Financial Freedom. United Way staff members will also be handing out free prescription drug cards and holding drawings to win a LIVE UNITED T-shirt.
Eric Deaton, chief executive officer of Danville Regional, was recently named a member of the board for the United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County.
“The United Way is very special organization that supports many other groups and initiatives that make a positive impact on the community,” said Deaton. “I am proud to serve on the board of our local chapter and hope that the community informational fair will encourage other people in our community to find out more about how they can get involved.”
To be a United Way Pacesetter, companies commit to offering their employees the opportunity to support United Way through payroll deductions, to allow a United Way speaker to interact with employees and ask for support, to dedicate staff internally to promote United Way’s impact on the community and to report their pledge to the campaign by Sept. 1, before the fall campaign kicks off.
“One way we support local organizations is by helping to connect them with people who are interested in volunteering or donating, or who may be in need of the services the organization is offering,” said Joy Stone, campaign director for the United Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County. “We appreciate Danville Regional for hosting this event and think it will be a great opportunity to bring people together. Though our work is year-round, Pacesetters like Danville Regional are truly setting the pace for the rest of the community.”
Danville Regional employees have demonstrated their support of United Way, donating more than $500,000 through payroll deductions in the past decade.
Other Pacesetters for Danville-Pittsylvania County include the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce, the Danville Register & Bee, Carter Bank & Trust, Target, United Parcel Service (UPS), Gateway Health Alliance, American National Bank & Trust, Institute for Advanced Learning & Research, URW Federal Credit Union, BB&T and Nestle.
