Dr. Thomas Boro, Jr. Joins Danville Regional Medical Staff

DANVILLE, Va. (Aug. 10, 2010) - Dr. Thomas Boro, Jr. has joined the medical staff at Danville Regional Medical Center as a general surgeon. Dr. Boro previously served as Chief Resident at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va.

Dr. Boro has extensive and varied training as a health professional. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Medical College of Virginia. After graduation, he joined Inova Fairfax Hospital as a resident, where he served on various hospital committees, including the Hospital Patient Safety Oversight Committee, the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Review Committee and the Hospital Resident Education Committee.

Dr. Boro previously served as an adjunct instructor at the Center for Trauma and Critical Care, Department of Surgery, for Medical College of Virginia. He taught courses in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, paramedic/emergency medicine and other various continuing education courses.

Dr. Boro began his career in the United States Navy, where he served as a petty officer third class. He then worked as a volunteer firefighter and paramedic and as flight paramedic division director before attending medical school. Dr. Boro received a Bachelor of Science in emergency health services from the University of Maryland and engaged in post-baccalaureate studies at George Mason University.

“I am very pleased to join Danville Regional as a general surgeon,” said Dr. Boro. “It is obvious to me that the hospital really cares about its patients, and I am looking forward to providing great care to the patients in this area.”

Dr. Boro is licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine and is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Medical Society of Virginia.

Danville Regional is the leading medical center in the Dan River Region of Virginia and North Carolina, providing open heart surgery and advanced cancer treatment. Approximately 140 physicians are on the medical staff. The medical center employs approximately 1,400 people.
