Danville Family YMCA Announces $500,000 Gift from Lifepoint and Danville Regional Medical Center

DANVILLE, Va. (April 14, 2010) - The Danville Family YMCA announced today that LifePoint Hospitals, Inc. and Danville Regional Medical Center have pledged a combined donation of $500,000 towards the building of the new YMCA.  The gift secures the naming of the Health and Wellness Center to be located in the new YMCA, tentatively named the Danville Regional Health & Wellness Center.

YMCA Chief Executive Officer Sarah Folmar, YMCA board member and vice president, Jim Abercrombie, and Danville Regional Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Eric Deaton will join their board members and other community leaders at 4pm, Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Danville Family YMCA for this special announcement.

“We are proud to be able to meet the growing needs of our community by providing the state-of-the-art Danville Regional Health and Wellness Center that will be utilized by the community,” said Jim Abercrombie.  “According to our Marketing Study, the Health & Wellness Center will be the number one utilized space in the new YMCA.”

This space will house resistance training equipment, cardiovascular equipment, free weight training equipment, a stretching area and fitness testing. There will be over 100 pieces of state-of-the-art equipment.

“This 5-year commitment by Danville Regional and LifePoint Hospitals clearly illustrates our strong belief in creating an environment for healthy habits to be established and nurtured.  We realize a healthier community benefits everyone.  I’m personally looking forward to using the equipment the new Danville Regional Health and Wellness Center will provide,” said Eric Deaton.

At the heart of community life in the city of Danville and the surrounding community, the mission-driven YMCA is “a place to belong” and to live the values that guide and unite our members: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.  The YMCA provides a special opportunity for kids and adults to join life-changing and life-saving programs. Health and Wellness is so important to our community and providing this much needed space will be an asset to all.

“Children and families in our community need and deserve the family-oriented programs and services the YMCA can provide,” said Sarah Folmar. “Few things are more important than a healthy lifestyle and the YMCA is committed to providing the facilities and programs to assist in helping each and every person achieve one.  We are so thankful to Lifepoint and Danville Regional Medical Center for providing us with this generous gift that will serve so many. This new YMCA and Wellness Center will serve three times as many people as we currently serve. What a great way for Lifepoint and DRMC to give back to the community.”
