Danville Regional Medical Center Announces 2010 Mercy Award Winner

DANVILLE, Va. (June 9, 2010)- Danville Regional Medical Center is proud to announce the winner and runner up of this year’s Mercy Award. The Mercy Award is given annually to an outstanding Danville Regional staff member who demonstrates extraordinary dedication. The 2010 recipient of the Mercy Award is Olive Olenick, who works in the emergency department as a customer liaison.

To be considered for the Mercy Award, nominees must exemplify several criteria:

- Consistently go above and beyond the call of duty in serving patients and the community.
- Demonstrate a level of commitment and caring that transcends everyday duties.
- Respect others in everything they do.
- Inspire others with compassion, dedication and a merciful spirit.

“The Mercy Award is one of the highest honors we can recognize the associates with here at Danville Regional,” said Eric Deaton, CEO. “Olive demonstrates extraordinary drive and commitment to serving our patients.”

Olive Olenick has worked at Danville Regional for more than 20 years. Though working in an emergency room can be stressful, she is widely respected for her calm, gentle and friendly demeanor. She demonstrates genuine kindness and care for everyone she comes into contact with. Olive describes her work ethic and philosophy around a quote she once heard: “When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.” Olive is very active throughout Danville Regional, often participating in fundraisers and donating her time and energy to provide the best care.

The Mercy Award pays tribute to Scott Mercy, who is LifePoint Hospitals’ founding chairman and CEO. Mercy passed away while learning to fly an airplane shortly after LifePoint was created. Many people who knew Mercy remember his caring spirit and passion for helping others. The Mercy Award was created in his honor to recognize outstanding employees who exemplify his character and go above and beyond to serve patients.
